A numerically indeterminant iteration of the annual New Year's Speed-IF, the Eleventh Hour New Year's Minicomp', was announced on the the forum at the beginning of December 2017, with games nominally due in by midnight on January 4th, 2018. Once again, Taleslinger did the cat herding and pulled this event together.
Premise
To quote the strict guidelines that shackled this year's minicomp competitors:
For those unfamiliar with it, this comp is meant to offer people a chance at writing a small work of IF at the end of the year. This year, we follow our tradition of having next to no rules:
1) Write whatever game you like, in any system you like. (Take note of the CF announcement below).
2) Finish any project you have been working on.
Any approach that lies between the two is also okay.
If you're thinking "So am I allowed to..." the answer is „yes, absolutely, please do“. To make it clear: You have to work very hard to come up with something I won't allow as an entry. ( [Anything illegal or in bad faith will be disqualified. Also, no rerelease of already released games, unless it's changed in some major way. No refunds.]
Games
When quantum uncertainty finally gave way to macroscopic stability -- wave functions collapsing and all that -- the following games were considered to actually, tangibly exist and be part of this year's event:
- Finish your Foe! (Oliver Frank; 6-Jan-2018; Glulx).
- Half-Life 3 Confirmed (Anssi Räisänen; 6-Jan-2018; Glulx).
- Red (Thomas Insel; 6-Jan-2018; Glulx).
- Ex Materia (Juhana Leinonen; 6-Jan-2018; Glulx).
- The Day we got a pet (Marius Müller; 6-Jan-2018; Glulx).
- Quickfire (Sean M. Shore; 6-Jan-2018; Glulx).
- The Bean Stalker (Jack Welch; 6-Jan-2018; Zil z5).
Results
All of the games were declared winners, or rather their authors were, ushering in a new era of enlightenment and global harmony (albeit briefly, near the accuracy limits of temporal measurement).
The Afterlife
As originally announced, all of the games made their way during the first weeks of January to Club Floyd where they were played and jovially at that.
