I don't know anything about the game at all, but it is listed at Baf's Guide; see the Baf's Guide page for The Forbidden Lands. And you can download it from the IF Archive from there. That's all I know about this one. -- David Welbourn 22:14, 3 December 2006 (EST)
Hm. From http://www.ace.net.au/gamehelp.htm, I see that there were two more games in this series: The Forbidden Lands, Book II: The Vale of Grimyre and The Forbidden Lands, Book III: The Islands of Dawn. I'll keep looking. -- David Welbourn 22:40, 3 December 2006 (EST)

According to the LANDS.DOC file in the ZIP file which you can download from the IF Archive:

  • it's a single player port of a multi-user text RPG game (i.e. of a MUD, I guess?) ("Lands I has been one of the most popular multi-user games ever created for BBS use. And it is why we decided to recode the game for stand-alone, single player use.");
  • it's "Copyright (c) 1993 by Computel";
  • it's freeware ("All rights are reserved by Computel. Freeware copies of The Forbidden Lands may be distributed freely between BBS's and/or users, however all code must be left intact.");
  • "Lands II and III will contain graphics".

But I don't know anything else about the game or its sequels. --Eriorg 08:11, 4 December 2006 (EST)

Downloading the game

I also have a page thingie on the first book in the series and im about to make one on the second book. Does anyone know where i can download either of the second two installments? -- Cassandra Palop 09:47, 5 December 2006

Well, from what Eriorg said on Talk:The Forbidden Lands, Book I: The City of Falchon, Book I was ported from a multi-user BBS version to something that could be downloaded for single-user use... but that doesn't mean Books II or III were also ported. There might not be any versions of Books II or III to download if they were never ported. I also agree that IFWiki might not be the best place to ask. In addition to the CASA Forum, you might also write to SynTax Magazine, see if they can help. -- David Welbourn 02:18, 6 December 2006 (EST)

Hello. I have two other pages for the first two books in this series but i am just trying to find someinfo on these games. And if possible somewhere where i can download either of the second two installments. if anyone could help (or at least tell me how to unlock the guilds) that would be GREAT! -- Cassandra Palop 10:23, 5 December 2006

thanks

thanks for the info guys to be honest i didnt expect any replies at all. Its such an OLD game. So thanks again for the info and ill keep chekin the page for anythin else that might come up. What my actualy problem is that in my version of the game i have all the guilds are closed and you cant get into any houses or quests or anything and i think that game has so much potential for me to really get into it but i dont know how to unlock these things in the game. SO if anyone else reads this thats my main problem. And thanks one more time :)

I think the IFWiki isn't the ideal place to ask these questions. I suggest that you ask them on the rec.games.int-fiction newsgroup: you may have answers there. If you don't, you could also try the CASA forum (not a very active forum, but it's mostly about hints and solutions of very old IF games). Or forums about MUDs (because it seems to be a port of a MUD); unfortunately, I know virtually nothing about MUDs, so I can't give you any links, but you could do a Google search. --Eriorg 12:18, 5 December 2006 (EST)
