=Creative Commons License for ifwiki=

I propose that we license all of the ifwiki material under the [http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0] license. This license allows republication of material by anyone, as long as they (1) attribute the article to ifwiki, including the URL of the original text, (2) make derivative works available under the same license, and (3) let others know about the license, which can be done by just including a link to it and a short note.

(The license also requires that the original author be credited. I suggest we understand this to mean that if any ifwiki articles have bylines naming one or more authors, those authors must be credited as a condition of the license. If they do not, it is sufficient to credit ifwiki and link to the article on ifwiki. In cases where there is no byline, the revision history for articles will still make everyone's contributions apparent, but we do not intend to legally require that anyone be credited individually for articles without a byline.)

I propose we change the submission forms for that letting ifwiki license your contributions under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 license will be a condition of submitting text or uploading files.

If this sounds good to you, and you are one of the people who have already contributed to ifwiki, please sign the [[founding agreement]] by logging on and adding the text "I agree to let ifwiki license my existing contributions under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 license" to the agreement, along with your name.

If you don't think this is a good idea, let's [[Talk:Founding Agreement] talk about it].

If all existing contributors sign, we can go ahead and add a Creative Commons notice to every page of the site.

Unfeatured Article

Feature Theme

"IF is now being written by many types of people, for many reasons, as freeware or for sale, and distributed in a wide range of places. It is harder than ever to follow what is going on, and also there is a greater than ever variety to the works and players."
--Emily Short, "Brief Bibliography about IF History," April 2016.

Nick Montfort created the Frequently Asked Questions article licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 license. There is another article by David Fisher that lists Past raif topics. Check these articles out if you have a question. It's probably already been asked or the topic already discussed.
