About three competitions

I'm not sure what should be done about three competitions (in Template:Comp news, Current events, and the pages about these comps). Their dates are no longer valid...

Hrm. Here's my assessment:

 • As near as I can tell, the Art Show is a no-show, at least for 2008. It's a juried comp, after all, and even if Doe were to make a new announcement today, I wouldn't expect the Art Show to happen any earlier than February 2009 now. So we can drop this one.
 • I don't know what to make of InsideADRIFT Game of the Year Comp's status. Let's assume (for now) that it's still happening. but delayed. I'll post a 'what's up?' query on the Forum. If KF fails to make any announcement by December 31st, then I think we can assume it's been cancelled, but not until.
 • Ectocomp 2008 appears to have had its voting period extended without stating an end date. So this one's still "Hot". I expect we'll see results for this one sometime between Christmas and New Year's. -- David Welbourn 05:47, 21 December 2008 (PST)

I tried to do the necessary changes about the Art Show and the Ectocomp.
If I understand correctly, the Game of the Year Comp is cancelled? And what about the BreadComp? --Eriorg 06:33, 24 December 2008 (PST)

Random Comp?

Does anyone know what happened to Random Comp #1? The deadline was February 21, but I didn't find any news about it... --Eriorg 15:21, 8 March 2009 (PDT)

Still no news. Well, I guess that it was cancelled? --Eriorg 06:55, 20 April 2009 (PDT)

I don't know if it was cancelled or not, but anyway, we can't have this comp in the list forever, with its February 2009 deadline! I removed it from the Comp news and the Current Events. --Eriorg 05:56, 28 April 2009 (PDT)

NPCComp

Were there any entries for the NPCComp? --Eriorg 06:30, 14 July 2009 (PDT)

 • I don't see any. I'll update the pages accordingly. And David Fisher knows how to edit the wiki if I'm wrong. :) -- David Welbourn 22:04, 15 July 2009 (PDT)

Template for this page and Current events?

With the new Wiki version we have now, would it be possible to do a template for both this "Template:Comp news" and the more detailed "Competitions & Contest News" section from Current events (but still have more details in the latter)? It's tedious to write the same things twice, and sometimes people forget to update one of the two pages... --Eriorg 00:15, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Well... does anybody know if it would be possible? --Eriorg 15:34, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

 • Sorry, Eriorg. I don't think I've even noticed your question until now. And I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking for. Like, I guess you're asking for something like and have a list of these somewhere and then have the list of news item templates expand in different ways depending on where the final page was? I suppose that's possible, with our new ParserFunctions, if we checked to see if _PAGENAME_ was Main Page or not, I guess. And then we'd just use this template, Comp news, on both pages. Gimme another day or two to figure it out. -- David Welbourn 15:56, 26 May 2011 (PDT)

Thank you very much! Yes, you've understood what I meant.

I think the syntax could still be a bit simpler and more readable if we only put the optional text in the template. For instance, instead of:

The Challenge

we could just type:

The Challenge (for ADRIFT games). Vote by April 30, 2011, 11:59 PM. Organizer: Finn Rosenløv.

Would it be possible? --Eriorg 05:39, 27 May 2011 (PDT)

 • Well, I'd like to leave news item as is, but I could also add news short and news long for bits of news items that only appear on the Main Page or never on the Main Page respectively. I want to retain the ability to use abbreviated forms of phrases on the Main Page. -- David Welbourn 15:47, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
 • Actually, I'll call them mainonly and nomain, which is even simpler. -- David Welbourn 16:08, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
