How It Begins (translation)

I can't understand Italian either, but automatic translations aren't the only tools available: online dictionaries can be useful too, or sometimes even Wikipedia or Google for proper nouns. The similarities with French do help me a bit, too.

So, here's my translation of the beginning of the game. I hope it's understandable and not too inaccurate:

Po Valley, 479 A.D.

Your eyes are filled with tears.

Italy, the cradle of civilization and of the Empire, has been overwhelmed by the Gothic barbarians.

Is it the end of the world? Or maybe just the end of a world.

As a poet, it's your duty to tell the posterity the glory of Rome and of its civilization.

"Your tent"

Your Spartan tent is put up in the Roman camp of Insula a few miles away from Mediolanum. The heavy cloth of the tent protects you from the cold morning breeze.

The opening is east.

You can see an oblong box (which is closed) and a table (on which there's a glass of wine) here.

Spanish and Catalan are my mother tongues and both languages are so similar to Italian that I am able to figure out almost every piece of written text in Italian, (unfortunately the same mechanisms are not appliable to French, though, ha, ha!). I fully agree with Eriorg's translation. Only one remark: Spartan in that context means figuratively frugal, simple, basic, bare, severe, plain, austere...
