| I think the MediaWiki software will only accept particular protocols. It wouldn't take the aim link I tried to put on my user page either. The editor help at Meta suggests that only http and ftp are allowed, but obviously news and mailto work also, at least on ifwiki. And most of that is from me just making it up and hoping it's good enough for everyone else to go along with. At least one page here, [[Spells]], was cribbed rather directly from Wikipedia. My reaction was to grimace quietly, grit my teeth, and let the page stand (at least for now). It's not that I'm opposed to borrowing any of the ''information'' from Wikipedia (assuming it's information about IF), but I would rather that it wasn't cut 'n' pasted word for word. Pages on IFWiki, for the most part, are in the public domain. Pages on Wikipedia, for the most part, are very much not in the public domain. And well, I really don't want to discuss copyright issues if I don't have to. So, um. I guess I'm giving you the O.K., but um, I'm a bit queasy about it. | * Here's my take on it: I don't see it as needless duplication. Articles about people (that is, in the People category) should be fairly formal, dry, standardized set of information about a person's contributions to IF, and it's expected that almost anyone might edit those pages.<br><br>By contrast, I see a user's page as having little to no formalization apart from what that user wants to impose upon himself or herself, and other users should (mostly) think twice about editing another user's page without permission or good reason. If a user wants his user page to redirect to the main article about himself, that's fine and dandy with me. But a better use of a user's page is to use it to say a little about oneself, perhaps have a personal to-do list of things they want to do in IF or for IFWiki, have a list of favourite or recommended games, and so on. And that should be fine too.<br><br>Also, I would like to stress that IFWiki does not have a rule against editing an article about oneself. That particular rule of Wikipedia's does not apply here. People have created articles about their own games, and frankly, that's a good thing. | :::Thanks to the recent updates to the wiki, we have more abilities than we used to have, but I don't think a "mass revert" is one of them. As Victor suggests, we could (usually) just replace the other way. The extension did warn me that 7 pages already had "inky.org" in them before letting me confirm the mass replace; I'm sure this was a precaution so you knew if a revert replace was feasible. Also on the confirmation page, there was a list of the proposed changes with a checkbox before each change-to-be where I had the option to deselect a change before committing to the mass replace. | I can add the back link to my page but when I try to edit a link that goes to my page I do not see a clear or readily identifiable way to do this. Rather confusing, need help.

| :The game list is a category ([[:Category:Games]]), so if you want to add your game page to it, you must add <tt><nowiki>[[Category:Games]]</nowiki></tt> at the bottom of the game page. I've just done it.

| One genre that I think is missing is a ''Holiday'' genre, for games taking place during for example Easter, Christmas or Halloween. Although most holidays are based on religion, the games are frequently not (e.g., [[Escape From Santaland]]), and I don’t think the existing ''Religious'' genre would be appropriate. I’m not sure ''Holiday'' is be the best name for the genre, though, as that might easily be seen to include summer holiday/vacation games, which aren’t especially ‘holiday-themed’. | The various choice-based games were added to [[:Category:CYOA]] by [[Template:CYOA]], i.e. <nowiki>{{CYOA}}</nowiki> was added to all the games' pages.

| We changed [[Template:CYOA]] so that it would add pages using it to [[:Category:Choice-based]] instead.

| The expected behaviour is that, once the CYOA template was changed, a job would be added to MediaWiki's job queue for all 145 pages that call that template, and that the pages would be automatically recategorised. It's described in the [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Job_queue#Updating_links_tables_when_a_template_changes MediaWiki job queue manual page]: "When a template changes, MediaWiki adds a job to the job queue for each article transcluding that template. Each job is a command to read an article, expand any templates, and update the link table accordingly. Previously, the host articles would remain outdated until either their parser cache expires or until a user edits the article."

| A couple of days later none of the pages have automatically been recategorised. Five of them were recategorised by me doing a null edit on them (i.e. opening the page for editing and saving having made no change).

| Some problems/solutions that come to mind:

| # It is possible to run the whole job queue at the command line - but we don't have shell access.

| # Something might be causing a problem in the queue. We might see an error at the command line when running the job queue, or might see something useful in the job table - but we don't have access to the database.

| # The job queue might be running too slowly. It would be good to check the value for [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgJobRunRate $wgJobRunRate] in the config file, LocalSettings.php - but we don't have access to the files.

| # I didn't notice the [https://www.ifwiki.org/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=statistics size of the job queue] increase when I edited the template (though to be fair it's higher today) so maybe the jobs weren't created. I can't think why this would be though.
