I maintain an extensively researched page [http://advent.jenandcal.familyds.org] on as many versions (currently 153) of Adventure as I've been able to track down.  I've included all the info David requested ten years ago -- author, programming language, platform, language, release date, and links to downloads where I've been able to find them. I doubt I'll have time to transcribe the info over to here, but it's available for anyone who'd like to undertake the task.

About the French translation: the date mentioned is 2000. I'm not sure about it: at http://jlpo.free.fr/telechargement.php, if you download the file "French2.1.zip", you can read in the source file of Aventure : "Traduction en français : 25.01.01". But maybe that's just a later version ?

How do we know which date is correct ?

  • I hadn't seen the French source code; thank you for providing a link to it. I took the 2000 date from the serial number 000531, but I see from the source code that that number was directly coded in. Therefore, I'm now inclined to believe the later date of 25-Jan-2001 is more correct, at least until more information comes in. Perhaps the earlier date was when the French translation effort began? -- David Welbourn 03:49, 29 June 2006 (EST)

Copyright status of PDP-10 Fortran version

What is the copyright status of the PDP-10 Fortran source code and data files?

There is a good record today of the history of Adventure. The 1975–1976 Crowther and Woods “350-point version” for PDP-10 Fortran is available.

What is the copyright status of this work? If I derive a work directly from that one, and release the result under e.g. “GNU GPL version 3 or later”, am I violating copyright?
