The interactive fiction archive is a store chain that sells, trades, and packages interactive fiction games.

The first store opened its doors in 1992, on the same day as the website. The stores hold conventions on selected dates throughout the year.

On convention days, people who visit the interactive fiction archive’s stores get a set of coins known as plays, where they can buy games with them.

The stores are modeled upon the white house from Zork Icomplete with a ‘boarded’ front door, an oriental rug in the stores ’living room’ and a ’cellar,’where visitors can watch the games being packaged.

There are over 100 interactive fiction archive stores worldwide. The stores sell games, books about games, Xyzzy news and SPAG magazines, and they even sell articles about ifMUD.
