Number of entries

What do people think about adding a "number of entries" field to the infobox for comp and jam pages?

To add that to the infobox, we could either add it as a field in the database to be entered manually using the form, or calculate it on the game page using the template. Probably using the form would be better, as you could add that IFcomp had 100 entries before adding every game, and it would also be easier to query the database. It would just be slightly more work (typing a total) at the outset. What do you think? Jonathan (talk) 09:48, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

This field would be fairly easy to add. I can see how it could be interesting (e.g. to list every IFComp and number of entries, or find out the competition with the most entries ever). I'll add it to my to do list! Jonathan (talk) 22:18, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

More event types?

After creating several new event pages, I've been thinking that the event type categories of Competition, Jam, Conference, or Meeting are a bit limited. For example, the IF Demo Fair was none of those, and events like the IF Short Games Showcase, even though it does have a competitive element, are not traditional competitions either. Could a another category, something like "festival" or "showcase" be added? Alyshkalia (talk) 00:27, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

We thought a lot about the available options before setting up the database, but subsequent experience of adding real events to the database is useful. Currently "Type" must be one of Competition, Jam, Conference, Meeting. Maybe we should add "Other event" for a while - then we could do a query on all events of that type, to help decide what other options to add. What do you think?
