How It Begins
You are Loin, an orphan boy and aspiring knight-to-be, living in the stables of Castle Cum-Ere-A-Lot. You wake up in the stable and see a scroll, a trough, a nosebag, and a mule. The scroll is from King Arnold himself. You are to give the scroll to the stable master and help him out.
Notable Features
- Parceled geography. The game map is not fully accessible at first. The opening puzzle restricts you to the castle grounds. After it is solved, you gain access to the castle interior and are given new tasks. When those tasks are solved, the village becomes accessible along with the final tasks.
- Multiple use of objects. Several items in the game are used in more than one puzzle.
- Conversation with NPCs is limited to SPEAK TO [NPC], GIVE [OBJECT] TO [NPC], and choosing YES or NO from a pop-up prompt. Animals are not treated as NPCs but as normal objects.
- Prose is serviceable, but the spelling is occasionally poor.
Trivia and Comments
- Inspired by and based (somewhat) on the British myth of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Several of the NPCs have names similar to their mythic counterparts, e.g.: King Arnold instead of King Arthur, Marlon instead of Merlin, etc. Also, the kingdom is Cum-Ere-A-Lot (Camelot), the table is the Brown Table (Round Table), and the famous sword is Skelibar (Excalibur).
- "Sir Loin" is, of course, a pun on the word steak cut "sirloin". The other knights have equally silly names.
