Synonyms

From IFWiki

Multiple words referring to the same object or action. For example, a game may allow a player to refer to a certain object as "armoire", "wardrobe", or "closet".

It is generally considered desirable for a game to respond to as many reasonable synonyms as possible, so that the player is not forced to guess the exact word the author had in mind. Also, because some regional dialects of English use different words to refer to the same object, it is considered desirable for a game to respond to as many of these as possible (e.g., allowing "torch" as well as "flashlight").
