Template talk:Game infobox

From IFWiki

This is the talk page for Template:Game infobox. See How to edit IFWiki to find out about using talk pages, and editing the wiki generally.

Oh-HO. Good work, sir. Does this mean that general game-page construction is now advisable, or should we hold off a bit longer until the template stabilises? To me, the formatting on Galatea looks pretty hideous - the first paragraph after the award icons starts to the left of the icons, above the infobox, and spills over on top of the infobox. I can take a screenshot if that'd help. - Maga 00:13, 13 February 2006 (EST)

The game page as a whole is not quite as stabile as I'd like. I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this design. There are several things I'd like to do with this particular part of it that I haven't figured out: a) how to give items a default value, b) how to make a row disappear if the associated value isn't specified, c) how to insert one template as a parameter value for an outer template, d) if I put class="infobox" in the table definition, how do I tell the wiki that all td tags should get the style vertical-align:top? Otherwise, this template seems okay for now. We may want to fiddle with the colors a bit; all that blue is a bit in-one's-face. Maybe a softer blue-grey? -- David Welbourn 12:01, 13 February 2006 (EST)
Default values were implented in MediaWiki 1.6. There's also an extension (for 1.6, I presume), which allows for conditional rows in tables. According to Special:Version, we're on 1.5.6. Would the system administrator consider upgrading? (This isn't a very critical issue, just saying.) --Mara 02:56, 9 September 2006 (EST)
I note IFWiki is still using 1.5.6. I'd really like to see this updated. There have been a few cases where I wanted to make a new template (or modify an existing one) and the lack of conditionals stopped me. Thanks. --Peskie 06:11, 15 June 2009 (PDT)

Cruelty

I've just commited a change made vis-à-vis the cruelty scale; basically you pass on the name of a template, i.e. cruelty=[template]. This creates a link to, say, Merciful games and adds that category to the page; cf. Template:Merciful. Is this overall a good idea? --Mara 07:38, 9 September 2006 (EST)

The general principle is fine. However, I would change Template:TBD to Template:Cruelty TBD; the former is potentially ambiguous without context. We might in the future want other to-be-determined-type templates. -- David Welbourn 10:26, 9 September 2006 (EST)

Unfortunately, it apparently doesn't quite work with game pages (with game infobox template) which were created before the template was updated. See Filaments or La Mort Pour Seul Destin, for instance (or any other game of the French games category, except Adventure) : when you look at the game page, the Category:Cruelty to be determined or Cruel games is there at the bottom, BUT when you look in the category itself (see Category:Cruelty to be determined, for instance), the game isn't listed ! I wonder why. --Eriorg 09:09, 19 September 2006 (EST)

The template is fine; this is a side-effect of how the wiki software works (or doesn't work). Changing the template didn't tell the wiki to go re-evaluate every page with the template as far as updating categories go, and visiting a game page with the template won't do that either. The older game pages will need to be re-edited, no matter how slightly, before the wiki software will re-evaluate everything fully. Coincidentally, I think that the game stub templates should be moved to the bottom of game pages (to look a little nicer), and that should take care of most of the older pages. -- David Welbourn 21:31, 19 September 2006 (EST)

Theme

I have edited a little bit the theme. I hope that is ok and that you like it :)

I tried to give it a little of simplicity but keeping the original colors (kind of :D)

What do you think? --Cibersheep (talk) 18:22, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
