How It Begins
Welcome to sunny Newcastle, a city in the north of England. Sitting at the mouth of the river Tyne (hence Newcastle-upon-Tyne) it is the home of a sub-species of the English commonly known as Geordies. The Tyneside shipyards are largely defunct now but the Geordie remains a hardy breed, friendly to strangers, devoted to family, fanatic about football and genetically predisposed towards alcohol addiction. Today we meet for the first time (unless you've played British Fox and the Celebrity Abductions (and who in their right mind hasn't?)) a young Geordie named Angela Hall, Anj to her mates. Always with a tendency towards other people's belongings she discovered that thieving was considerably easier if you could fly and turn invisible and for a few years now the streets of Newcastle have been haunted by an elusive criminal, The Magpie. Although incapable of doing a stroke of honest work Anj doesn't have a malicious bone in her perfectly formed body; she steals things partly as a hobby and partly in order to finance her booze and cigarettes. Like her namesake she's attracted to shiny things but once she's got something she can forget all about it and throw it out in the trash. In order to keep her hand in Magpie does occasional contract work, and she has vague, vodka-clouded memories that someone wants her to steal something.
