User:Bg/Template:dead link

From IFWiki

[{{{archive}}} {{{text}}}]

This template is a variation on the "link" template. Like the "link" template, the "dead link" template provides a way to store both the original URL and the URL of an archived snapshot of the page. The snapshot can be used when the original link is found dead. Taking the extra step of storing a page at the Internet Archive when the link is still live--you can do this with the click of a button, using a bookmarklet--will ensure there is an archived snapshot available later, and will give you a URL that you can paste it into the template for the "archive" parameter.)

When the original link is found dead, the word "dead" can be added in front of "dead link" so that the "dead link" template can be used instead.

Arguments for this template:

  • url (required), the original link.
  • archive (recommended), the full url of an archived snapshot of the link.

For example, when the "dead link" template is used, the following

{{dead link|url=http://diden.net/~maga/ifrecs.html|archive=http://web.archive.org/web/20110420071659/http://diden.net/~maga/ifrecs.html}}

shows up as

http://web.archive.org/web/20110420071659/http://diden.net/~maga/ifrecs.html
