View source for Adventure International

Company founded by [[Scott Adams]] to market his interactive fiction games. Adams seems to have released the first commercial computer game ("Adventureland") in 1978, promoted through a tiny advertisement in a computer magazine. While Adventure International's games were textually sparse and occasionally unoriginal, the genre as a whole benefited from the company's experiments with a wide variety of settings. The company went bankrupt in 1985, one of the many victims of changing market conditions and software piracy.
