Mercy: a short story by Chris Klimas.

How It Begins

You see, when the scientists had thought that the only smallpox around was in a very very small box kept securely closed, they were wrong.

When Dr. Peter Basham comes into the clinic, seven more people have died from a prevalent smallpox epidemic. According to his identification card, Dr. Basham is a euthanization specialist, and his primary job is to bring mercy to the stream of smallpox victims.

Dr. Basham has just euthanized another patient; two nurses come in and carry the naked dead body away.

Notable Features

  • Mercy is heavily story-oriented and entirely puzzleless.
  • Mercy contains a scripted scene mimicking a computer interface.
