Commercial Interactive Fiction refers to IF sold as a product, either online or through stores.
From the late 1970s, a number of companies have existed that have either focused entirely on Interactive Fiction as a product or as one of a variety of software products. These have included:
- Adventure International
- Infocom
- Sentient Software
- Magnetic Scrolls
- Level 9 Computing
- Legend Entertainment
- Sierra On-Line
- Malinche Entertainment
- Illuminated Lantern
Most have gone out of business (or out of the business of adventure games), but a number of companies are still extant, mostly as sole proprietorships.
