The Z-Tools are a collection of tools for the Z-machine, the virtual machine that plays Infocom and Inform-compatible games. Originally written by Mark Howell, later maintained by Matthew Russotto.

The Z-Tools comprise:

check
check story file integrity, like $verify command
infodump
dump headers and tables from story file
inforead
convert IBM bootable disks to story files (PC builds only)
pix2gif
convert V6 IBM MG1/EG1/EG2 picture files to GIF
txd
disassemble story file to Z-machine assembly; dump text strings
