How It Begins
The game begins with a quote, either by Eric Bogle (version 4) or unattributed —presumably by Andrew Plotkin himself— (version 6).
You were in a picnic with your new mates during a very late summer afternoon. As the atmosphere was not peaceful enough to have a rest, you made up your mind to spend some time exploring the surroundings; however nobody noticed your departure. Now you are at the edge of a meadow, near a battered bridge over a stream. The noise from the picnic is less annoying here. You are carrying nothing.
