How It Begins
First, there's a quote from MountainSmith.com.
You might be anyone. While walking your purebred bloodhound, Tookie, talking alien cats from outer space dognap him! Then they all (including their spacecraft) dived into a hole in the ground, and you followed in pursuit.
Now you stand underground (or maybe inside the spaceship), holding Tookie's broken leash, beside a well. Four archways lead off into the cardinal directions. The aliens said that if you were clever enough, you might get Tookie back. So... be clever.
Notable Features
- Uses the collect-all-the-gemstones trope.
- Uses a score and rank. The maximum score is 50. The ranks are terms like "dogmeat" and "catspaw".
- NPCs use the ask-tell conversation protocol.
- In-game hints.
Trivia and Comments
- The title of the game was initially oddly-cased as TOOKiE'S SONG during the competition. The author later asked the IF community to change the title of her game from TOOKiE's SONG to Tookie's Song. See (Comp) Too late to change my title?, rgif post, November 2002.
- The initial puzzle with the well was borrowed from a Dungeons & Dragons CYOA book called "Dungeon of Dread". The author admits that she read the book "many years ago", but didn't remember where the puzzle came from at the time she added it to the game. See the discussion of this puzzle in the TOOKiE'S SONG rgif thread from November 2002.
