Reviews and News in July 2006
- SPAG #45 issued on July 17th. Contains "A Look at IntroComp 200(?5?)" by Mordechai Shinefield, and reviews of The Amazing Interactive Turing Machine, Deadsville (IntroComp version), Finding Martin, Ghost Train, Glass, OMNIQuest, Swineback Ridge, There's a Snake in the Bathtub, and Voices of Spoon River.
- Reviews Exchange Issue 9 is out in both HTML and PDF versions. Games reviewed: For Love Of Digby; The Potter and the Mould; It's Easter, Peeps!, SERE - Survive, Evade, Resist, Escape; The Warlord, The Princess & The Bulldog; The Reliques of Tolti-Aph; Damnatio Memoriae; and Pantomime.

What's Hot
- ADRIFT Hourglass Comp 2006 a.k.a. the 3rd Three Hour Games Competition. For new ADRIFT games created in three hours or less. 13 entries. Voting deadline: extended to 31st August 2006. Organizer: Woodfish. The winning game is The Long Barrow by Christy Henshaw (as C. Henshaw).
Results of Recent Competitions
- IntroComp 2006—a comp for the beginnings of games, and sponsored by XYZZYnews—released seven games on July 17th. The winning entry, as announced in the awards ceremony on August 6th, is Southern Gothic (Mordechai Shinefield; Z-code).
- McDream Minicomp ended with one entry: Dreadwine (Eric Eve; 23-Jul-2006; Z-code).
- InsideADRIFT Summer Competition 2006 has three entries. The voting concluded on 21st July 2006. Organizer: Ken Franklin. The winning game is The Reluctant Vampire by David Whyld.
- LOTECH Comp 2006, a minicomp for low tech games, ended strangely. Only one game was entered, but because it was previously released, it was disqualified. The game is, however, available from the Lotech site.
- One Room Game Competition 2006 is a comp for one-room games and sponsored by L'avventura è l'avventura. Nine games were released on May 14th: 7 in Italian, and 2 in English. The winning game is Final Selection (Sam Gordon; Z-code) in English.

Authors should be working on their entries for:
- CreatureComp is a minicomp for games about creatures. Submission deadline: Friday, September 22nd, 2006. Organizer: David Fisher.
- 12th Annual Interactive Fiction Competition a.k.a. IF Comp 2006. The intent deadline has passed. The submission deadline is September 30, 2006, 11:59pm EST. Organizer: Stephen Granade.
- French Minicomp 2006 is a comp for games in French. Submission deadline: 21st october 2006. Organizer: Eric Forgeot.
- InsideADRIFT Game of the Year Comp 2006 for both new ADRIFT games and ADRIFT games previously released during the 2006 calendar year. Submission deadline: December 10, 2006, 15:00 GMT. Organizer: Ken Franklin.
- GESCH MiniComp is tentatively slated for January or February 2007. Details to come. Organizer: Radical Al.
- Spring Thing 2007 for longer and better-tested games. Intents-to-enter must be submitted to the organizer between noon EDT on September 30, 2006 and noon EST on March 1, 2007. Organizer: Greg Boettcher.
- InsideADRIFT Summer Comp 2007 is open for any unreleased, but complete, ADRIFT games. Submission deadline: June 30, 2007. Organizer: Ken Franklin.
- IF Dreams is a recurring monthly minicomp. Organizer: David Cornelson.
